World Class, Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory

Welcome to Lead, South Dakota, home of the new, World Class, Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory, located at the 4850 ft. level in the former Homestake Gold mine. Lead is located in the Heart of the Black Hills of South Dakota, and is currently working towards becoming a
High Performance Community.
We are Lead 2010, an appointed committee working hand in hand with local and state governments to promote new low, medium and high technology within the Lead area. Recent agreements with the former owners of the Homestake Mine and the approval and financing from the State of South Dakota to start up and operate a World Class DUSEL (Deep Underground Science & Engineering Laboratory) has answered the question “Were will the next Silicon Valley Be?”
Lead’s new DUSEL will operate and cater to many different disciplines within the realm of scientific experiments, and will quickly become a world-wide research and development mecca. The Lead DUSEL is aligned with a 60+ member scientific consortium, representing a number of United States Universities. We are also working with support companies and growth strategy companies such as N2TEC and CEO Praxis, Inc. Primary benefactors of this Laboratory will be The Department of Defense, Department of Energy, the medical industry, high-tech entrepreneurs, as well as foreign enterprises.
This project is aligned with the state’s 2010 Initiative to produce opportunity and economic development for the state.

The objective of the N2TEC Rural Pilot Project in the Black Hills region of South Dakota is to demonstrate the ability to effectively network innovators, entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurial communities to develop new technology-based businesses and expand existing businesses in rural regions. The model will be tested in the Black Hills communities and then expanded to other rural communities throughout South Dakota and nationally.
N2TEC has selected the Black Hills of South Dakota to conduct this project during 2005 and 2006. The Black Hills HPC [High Performance Community] Index number indicated that it was in a position to benefit from the expertise, resources, and facilitation of the N2TEC HPC team. The HPC, developed by N2TEC partner Delore Zimmerman of North Dakota, is based on Seven High-Performance Community Action Strategies: connectivity, entrepreneurship, job growth from within, global awareness, industry clusters, inter-firm collaboration, and regional collaboration. An HPC is a place where individuals, companies, organizations, and government agencies are enabled to be fast, flexible, focused, networked, customized, and global. Completing the HPC Index provides a snapshot of a community’s readiness for innovation and technology-based development.

This project is aligned with the state’s 2010 Initiative to produce opportunity and economic development for the state.

N2TEC is an organization of carpetbaggers that wish to abscond with the fruits of research in South Dakota for the benefit of corporations in California. I look forward to their failure with great glee.

To Stagestop Villager:

#1 - N2tec is from ND, not CA.

#2 - You're probably mad because it is taking away from "your" consulting business.
